My keyboard stinks in a relaxingly pretty way.

Or, well, now it does. Before, it just had this seeping funk going on because it's been collecting food since the last ice age.

It was my birthday recently, since, y'know, I've only mentioned it a few hundred times since then. And, strange though it may seem, my parents remember that sort of thing. Probably something to do with the whole birthing process and raising me, I don't know. I can never quite remember when my birthday is, let alone anyone else's.

They got me a keyboard and mouse pillow set, filled with lavender. Actual lavender.

It's a little overpowering right now, because it's fresh and was sitting in a box in the heat, I think, but I really get the feeling that once it calms down and relaxes a bit, it's going to be as wonderfully lovely as the clean-burning lilac candle I got...was that last year?

You'll have to excuse the incredible clashing of the in-place keyboard pillow and the...red-ish sort of thing.

I think it would probably work out rather nicely with a laptop, too, but I'm not quite sure, and I'm not going to dig out the HP Laptop of Firey Horror to find out.

There's the mouse pillow, which, I have to say, it's probably a great thing to have with this trackball. It gives me something slightly elevated to rest the heel of my hand on, instead of the whole inconvenient curve thing that I have to do normally. It might actually help to steady my hand, as well.

This is the stuff inside. I think it's mostly some sort of filler, but there are little bits of actual lavender flowers in there, too.

They look handmade -- not hand-handmade, but sewing machine handmade, and there's a little bit of velcro sewn into one end on each of the two things. The little tags that came tied with a pretty bit of ribbon on each pillow said that, once the smell was gone, a bit of lavender essential oil could be used to 'recharge' it.

I didn't get a picture of any of the wrapping or anything like that because I was being lazy. Also, it was exceptionally warm at my front door, and I wanted to be sure that whatever was in the mystery mail wasn't harmed by the heat.

I did get a picture of the inside of the card, though. And yes, I got it last, partly because I had to play the 'lots of buttons and options' game on my camera to get it to focus properly on a close-up of handwriting.

Thanks, Mom, Dad. I love you too.

Just for reference: while I don't really buy into every aspect of aromatherapy, I have noticed [through personal trials] that certain smells [like lilac] are very relaxing, and can actually ease the general, overall suffering-experience of a migraine. Lavender is also soothing, and is sometimes marketed as being a form of 'migraine relief aromatherapy'. It does work. Not quite as well as lilac, but since the absolute perfect lilac smell is nearly impossible to come by, it's a good second. And, really, nothing works 100%. Not for me, anyway.

Who knows. For someone else, it might be a trigger, or a cure. You have to try and see.

Post Delayed -- I just got off the phone. Mystery call from a very familiar area code, so now I get to figure out why my parents' phone number wasn't actually in my phone like it was supposed to be [I thought I entered it].

Oh, I entered it wrong. That's so...me.

Talking on the phone is always an adventure, for me, because I'm always interrupting people, or staying dead silent because I think they're going to start talking again. Also, since it's a new phone, I'm still working on the whole volume balance thing, and where I need to hold it so I can be heard.

Anyway, I think Silent Hill is waiting for me in the mailbox, so I'm going to sit here staring at the sky until it turns a proper black, so I can go get the movie and see if I can actually wear out a DVD....
